I’m making a MAJOR life change… and NO, we’re not having a baby (sorry moms!).
As some of you know, for the last 3 years I’ve worked at an amazing credit union. My friends and family celebrated with me recently when I accepted a promotion into a management position. Things were going really well. However, last week I sat down with my boss and resigned from my position (tears were most definitely shed, regardless of how much I had prepared myself to keep it together). WHY? Because I also recently received another offer that I simply couldn’t say no to!
For the past few months I have been working part-time for The International Academy of Wedding Photographers. If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you know that a little over a year ago I joined The Academy as a student, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. So when the founders of The Academy, Matt & Carissa (of Matt Kennedy Photos), asked me if I’d be interested in working part-time for The Academy, I jumped on the opportunity! I’ve been learning so much, and having so much fun doing it just a few hours a week.
But then, one evening while Carissa and I were having a video chat, she asked me if I’d be interested in moving to a full-time position…. and after a lot of questions, figuring out what that would look like for Brandon and I, and some serious prayer and soul-searching, the decision was clear: I couldn’t say no to this opportunity! I would get to work from home, make my own schedule (which means more flexibility for scheduling sessions!!), do something directly related to my biggest passion (wedding photography!), work with people I respected and admired so much, and I would have the opportunity to learn a ton!
Plus, in the midst of my decision process, Brandon sent me this in an email one morning:
“If you think you’d regret not taking this job, then you should take it… I know it’s scary, but life is about taking risks. And this is a risk I’m definitely willing to take...” Along with some other amazing words of advice and encouragement, and this picture was at the bottom:
And honestly, the moment I read his email, combined with that photo and quote, I knew. If I said no to this opportunity, I’d regret it. So I pushed my fear of change and the unknown aside, and accepted the position with The Academy as their Manager of Marketing and Student Services!!! I’ll move into my new full-time role on May 1st, but I’m already so beyond excited for all of the things to come, and for everything I’m going to learn!
Right after I made up my mind, I told Brandon I would need to go shopping for new work clothes. He looked a bit confused and asked what else I needed to work from home, to which I quickly replied with the obvious answer: MORE YOGA PANTS!!
This new chapter of life is unknown, and that’s always a bit scary, but more than that it’s overwhelmingly exciting for Brandon and I. We can’t wait to start this adventure, and we hope you’ll join us as we continue to share our life updates on the blog!
If you’re facing a new adventure today that’s a little scary, and the only thing holding you back is that fear of the unknown... If your heart is telling you to jump, but you're standing on the edge afraid... Then friends, grab ahold of that fear (because it never goes away) and just JUMP! Because “If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”
And if you’re a wedding photographer, just go check out The Academy NOW. You won’t regret it!
