Our 3rd Anniversary Trip to Cancun, Mexico
Beaches, Mojitios, and the Trip That Almost Wasn't
Yesterday we shared all about our crazy summer that led to us cancelling our long planned anniversary trip to Banff National Park in Canada, just 48 hours before we were planning on leaving, and trading it for two plane tickets to an all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico! You can read about that HERE. Now of course we were sad about not going to Banff; we'd been planning that trip all year. But due to the summer's events, it just no longer made sense. I was still on crutches, and hiking through beautiful Canada would not be an option. So Brandon being the hero he is came up with a new plan, just 48 hours before our trip.
It was a whirlwind of a weekend as we prepared for our trip, but once we landed in Mexico and arrived at our resort, all the stress of our summer had faded away. We walked into our swim-up suite and squealed in excitement like middle school girls; we couldn't believe how nice it was for the price we paid (booking last minute meant unbooked rooms were super discounted - BONUS!!). We had a whirlpool tub in our room, roses on the bed, chilled champagne and a fully stocked (and free!) mini bar in our room. But outside our patio door is what really won our hearts! Our patio had one sunbed on it along with an outdoor table, where we ate our breakfast each morning, and there was another sunbed below us in the grass, overlooking the pool. We literally just had to walk out our patio door and we were steps away from the pool, which looped around the resort down towards the ocean.
We spent six days doing nothing but hanging out in the pool, drinking endless mojitos and pina coladas, reading books on the beach, swimming in the ocean, eating too much food, and falling even more in love than we could have ever imagined. We took our first ride on a sailboat, enjoyed live shows from the resorts theater like burlesque, and Michael Jackson and Elvis impersonators. We hung out at the sports bar, the cigar bar, the coffee bar, and the pool bar. Ohhhh, the swim up pool bar! By mid-week we would swim up to the pool bar and be greeted with, "Hola! Two skinny mojitos?" To which we would prompty reply, "SI!" On the day of the Olympics opening ceremony we were hanging out in the pool and were surprised with a poolside show to celebrate! Dancers came running out around the pool with flags from tons of countries, and then there was a full on dance show next to the pool.
I'll stop talking now, because words just can't do justice for how incredible and needed this getaway was for us! A week of relaxing and refreshing was exactly what we needed to come home ready to finish our busy season on a strong note and move into fall at a much slower pace. It was a summer of challenges, but I'm so thankful that for every sinlge thing we faced, I had Brandon at my side fixing things, and assuring me it would all be okay. 3 years of marriage, and 7 years of dating (as of today!), and I can't wait to see what adventures the rest of our life has in store for us!
This was our room! Accidently let my crutches sneak in the corner of this one ;)
The room service breakfast was so AMAZING! We had a full spread, complete with a giant pot of coffee, delivered each morning to our pool side patio!
The next few show our swim-up patio with the sunbeds; by far our favorite thing about our room!
The picture below is of the pool with the swim-up bar. This is where most of our time was spent! :)
And the next one shows how I got around the resort most days; with my crutches on a floatie! We'd hop in the pool outside our room, throw my crutches on a floatie, and swim down to the pool with the swim-up bar or to the ocean. I'd just throw my crutches next to a chair poolside, and then when I needed to get out of the pool I still had them nearby!
And one of our very favorite things from our trip, the sailboat we took our first ride on!
And last but not least, our very favorite friend from our trip, Simba the Monkey!!! We may have spent a full afternoon plotting ways to smuggle him back home....
