CONGRATULATIONS!!! You’re engaged! You can’t stop staring at or playing with that new ring on your left hand, and dreaming of your perfect wedding day. I get it, I've been there! Being engaged is one of the most exciting times, but I also know how quickly it can get overwhelming. So I’ve made you a quick little cheat sheet of the first 5 things you need to do when you get engaged!
1. ANNOUNCE THE BIG NEWS, AND CELEBRATE!
Tell all your family and friends, make it Facebook official, pop the champagne! Don’t rush into planning right away, take a while to just celebrate the start of this next adventure - and steal as many glances at that ring as you want!
2. SET YOUR BUDGET
Before you even get started planning, set your budget! Talking money is never fun, but it’s a crucial step to successful and stress free wedding planning. Decide how much you’re willing to spend, and figure out where that money is coming from. Are either of your parents helping with costs, or are you paying for it on your own? Will you take out a loan or put things on credit cards, or do you want to stick to your savings? Have the hard conversations in the beginning and it will make every other choice so much easier!
3. CHOOSE A SEASON AND PICK A FEW DATES
Decide if you want a wedding in the spring, summer, winter, or fall. Each one has it’s pros and cons, and each season brings a different vibe and feel to your day. Once you decide which season you want to get married in, choose a few dates - but don’t pick THE date just yet!
4. PRIORITIZE YOUR VENDORS
Make a list of all the vendors you need to contact and hire, and put them in order from most important to least important to you. Have you been dreaming of one specific venue for years? Is there a photographer you just have to have capture your big day (we hope so!)? Is your biggest priority the party, with food, drinks, and good music? Decide which things are most important to you, and which ones don’t matter so much, and let your budget correspond with that list.
5. CONTACT VENDORS & FINALIZE YOUR DATE
Look at the top vendors on your priority list, and contact them! For most people this is the venue and the photographer. Check with them to see which dates that have open from the list of dates you chose in #3, and find a date that they both have available and set your wedding date in stone! Most people finalize their wedding date before they ever contact their dream team of vendors, and many times they end up learning that their favorite vendors aren’t available for the date they chose! We absolutely hate telling brides we’re unavailable for the big day, and I know other vendors feel the same way!
And there you have it! Our list of the 5 things you need to do after you get engaged! We hope this was helpful for everyone who got a new ring over the holiday season!
If we’re on your dream team of vendors, be sure to contact us soon! We have less than 10 dates left open for 2017, and we’re already starting to book 2018 weddings. We don’t want to have to tell you we’re unavailable for your big day, so be sure to follow the steps above in order! Happy planning brides & grooms!!
